TAMED: Mobile Studio Witton!

A wonderful week working with the neighbors of Witton to envision new connections to the river, looking 60 years ahead. In partnership with MADE, a proactive center for good urban place-making based in Birmingham UK, and with Kathryn Moore of the Birmingham Center for Art and Design at Birmingham City University, and a team of artists, landscape architects and engineers commissioned by the National Envionmental Agency, Mobile Studio led a series of workshops that culminated in a Saturday event in Witton. The triangular spit of land, a lone tree in an industrial neighborhood of trucks and row houses, sheltered a day of cooking, drawing, film and conversations across delicate veils and spices of other worlds. Co-mingling with bank vole, speckled trout and osprey, the blue spirits of children loosened stuck notions of what might be possible in this gritty neighborhood between munitions factories and motor making operations, the thoughtful watch of the teachers became hands on the place.
